individual questions. If you have a small, easily carried item for which
you would like some advice, please bring it along. Because of the potential
for damage, we do not recommend bringing unusually large or fragile items.

Participants will learn techniques to store textiles on flat and hanging
storage. Instruction will also be given for constructing special textile
boxes and in construction of soft mounts to support objects.

Participants will learn basic care and cleaning techniques for library
and archives materials--dry cleaning, vacuuming materials, housekeeping,
and other handling and storage issues.
Level I book repairs, Susan Hansen.
Participants will learn book repair techniques taking 15 minutes or
less -- hinge tightening, tip-ins, adding pockets, pamphlet binding.
Using environmental monitoring INSTRUMENTS, Ivan Hanthorn. This session
will include inexpensive options such as using your camera light meter
to measure light intensity.
Care of photographs, Tanya Zanish-Belcher
This workshop will describe the various methods of photographic processes
(1839-the present) as well as discuss care and handling issues.
level 1 Care of wooden objects, Pete Sixbey
Participants will learn basic examination and cleaning techniques as
well as proper handling and storage of wooden objects.

The State Historical Society of Iowa has had the HRDP funding restored
and is inviting applications for preservation projects in documentary
collections, museums, and historic preservation. Heres your
chance to meet with HRDP Coordinator Cynthia Nieb to discuss your
proposal. Deadline is January 15, 2004
DIRECTIONS TO MURRAY CONFERENCE CENTER: To get to the Murray Conference
Center from I35/80, take Exit 126 and go west on Douglas, past the Pilot
Truckstop to the stop light. The Murray Center entrance is on the left
shortly after the stoplight. Watch for a sign on the gate. The Center
is the first building you come to. |
