ANNOUNCEMENTS
Directions to the State Historical Building: From I-235: Take the East 6th Street exit and turn south onto East 6th Street. Next, turn left (east) onto Grand Avenue (a two-way street). The State Historical Society Building will be on your right and a free parking garage on your left (at the end of the block or at 7th and Grand). FYI - The parking garage is next to the Iowa Genealogical Society building. Park at the garage and walk across the street to SHSI.
Coming from the south take SE 14th Street (Highway 69) to Grand. Turn left (west) and go to the parking garage on the northwest corner of 7th and Grand. The SHSI building will be on the left (or on the south side of Grand).
Go into the SHSI building (the north door of the building is across from the parking lot) and proceed to the visitor's information desk on the main level (or first floor) next to the gift shop (take the stairs down or the elevator). ICPC Board members will be there to greet and assist you.

Past Conferences
- ICPC's FIRST SAVE OUR STUFF (S.O.S.) Conference was held Friday, June
19, 1999, at the Herbert Hoover Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa.
The conference was co-sponsored by The Iowa Museum Association and
the Conference of Iowa Archivists. Corporate sponsors were Archival
Products, aDivision of Library Binding Service, Des Moines, and Heritage
Microfilm, Cedar Rapids. Workshop sessions included discussions on technology
and preservation, the use of volunteers in collection preservation projects
and developing cataloging and finding aids. Break-out sessionsoffered
hands-on opportunities for learning to make storage boxes, storing textiles,
preserving scrapbooks, preparing documents for microfilming, and conducting
a library book preservation survey.
- ICPC's SECOND ANNUAL SAVE OUR STUFF (S.O.S.) CONFERENCE was held June
14 , 2000 at the History Center in Cedar Rapids.
Featured Speakers included: Karen Sinkule, Preservation and Conservation
Librarian, National Library of Medicine, Washington D.C. "Back
to Basics: Low-tech, Low-cost Preservation Strategies in the Digital
Age"; and
Nancy Kraft, Preservation Librarian at the State Historical of Iowa,
Iowa City and John Rocarek, Fund Raising Consultant "Using Collections
for Creative Fund Raising"

- FILM SCHOOL: GETTING YOUR MATERIAL READY FOR MICROFILMING on June
15 at Heritage Microfilm also in Cedar Rapids. Topics covered included:
- the microfilming process and quality controls;
- standards for film, microfilming, and storage of microfilm
- how to prepare material for microfilm
- how to write up a work order
- how to communicate with a vendor
- ICN Workshop 2001. ICPC's annual ICN workshop took place April 18,
from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The topic for the April workshop was the
interpretation, care and handling, and displaying of photographs. This
three hour presentation featured three speakers. Loren Horton discussed
interpretation; Becky Plunkett discussed care and handling; and Gary
Frost discussed the framing, matting, and display of photographs.
- ICPC's THIRD ANNUAL SAVE OUR STUFF (S.O.S.) Conferrence was held
June 22, 2001 at the Hotel Patee.
- ICPC's Fourth Annual SAVE OUR STUFF in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Iowa Wesleyan
College & The Old Threshers Theatre Museum. June 7, 2002.
8:30 A.M. - 3:45 P.M. Featured speakers were Abby Smith of CLIR, and
David McCartney of the University of Iowa Special Collections.
- ICPC's FIFTH ANNUAL SAVE OUR STUFF (S.O.S.) Conference was held Friday,
June 6, 2003 at the Amana Heritage Society Museum in Homestead, IIowa.
The program included a discussion of film preservation strategies,
and hands-on workshops on structure of the book, methods for flattening
paper-based items, cleaning and basic repair of paper based items, and
assessment of materials. 2003's S.O.S conference supported ICPC's Preservation
101 program which consists of 6 ICN presentations and three hands on
workshops. The next handson workshops will be held in November of 2003

- ICPC's SIXTH ANNUAL SAVE OUR STUFF (S.O.S.) was held Friday, June
18 , 2005 , 8:30 am. – 4:00 pm. Fisher Community Center , Marshalltown
Our featured speaker was international expert, Henry Wilhelm of Grinnell,
Iowa. He is one of the world’s leading authorities on the preservation
of color photographic images. His book, The Permanence
and Care of Color Photographs, 1993, is the standard reference
book in the field. Hands-on or demonstration sessions included mini
disaster response, book repair level II, humidification and flattening,
paper treatment and storage level II, plastics identification, and photocopy
preservation.
- ICPC's SEVENTH ANNUAL SAVE OUR STUFF (S.O.S.) was held June 3, 2005.
Fort Dodge Iowa. Iowa Central Community college at the Voc-Tech Building.
Our guest speaker was Kathy Cyr of the Campbell Center
- ICPC's Eighth Annual Save our Stuff (S.O.S) conference was held in
four locations as part of our Preservation 102 program (see above).
